This week the steelwork was installed in our second project in Highbury.
The new steelwork allows the small rear living room to be completely opened up, with nearly all of the existing brickwork at ground floor level being removed. The installation of the steelwork has been complicated by the fact that it has not been possible to disrupt the first floor bathroom, so support of the existing house has been provided from beneath.
The works will provide a fully-glazed rear extension with a tapered plan to reduce the visual impact for neighbouring properties.
The project is due for completion in the late spring.

Work has begun on our second house extension in Highbury, very close to the project which finished on site in 2008.

This project involves the construction of a new rear extension and the extension refurbishment of the ground floor of the house. A continuous storage wall, finished in timber veneer, will run the entire length of the party wall, linking the kitchen to the living area at the rear.

The project is due to complete in the Spring of 2009. We’ll be posting progress photos from site as the work develops.

The existing kitchen to the right of the picture will be demolished to make way for a new extension in the same location and to the rear. The entire corner of the existing house will be removed and supported on a new steel frame designed by Reaction Engineers (www.reactionengineers.co.uk).

The main contractor for the project is LW Creations.
